Delete your data
You can delete your full Crossings account, or just specific data, at any time. All deletion actions are permanent and cannot be reversed.
Delete specific data without deleting your account
You don’t have to delete your whole account to remove data from Crossings. The app supports several targeted deletions:
Hide a photo you previously revealed
- Open the crossing that contains the photo.
- In the Shared row, tap select.
- Tap the photos you want to hide, then tap the Hide pill.
The recipient loses access immediately, the encrypted key is revoked on our server, and the underlying ciphertext is deleted.
Hide every photo you’ve shared in a crossing
- Open the crossing.
- Tap the ⋯ menu in the top-right.
- Tap Hide all my photos and confirm.
Remove a connection
Removing a connection severs the link with the other user. All crossings between the two accounts are removed from both sides, and any photos either of you uploaded for the other’s eyes are deleted from our servers.
- Open Profile from the home screen.
- Find the connection in the list and tap its options menu.
- Tap Remove connection and confirm.
If you can’t access the app and want a specific category of data removed, email support@crossings.so describing what you’d like deleted and we will action it within seven days.
Delete your entire account
If you want to remove your account and everything tied to it, follow either option below. Deletion is permanent.
Option 1 — Delete in the app
- Open the Crossings app on your phone.
- Tap the avatar in the top-right of the home screen to open your Profile.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
- Confirm in the dialog. Your account and the data described below are deleted within a few seconds.
Option 2 — Email request
If you no longer have access to the app, email support@crossings.so from the address linked to your Crossings account. Include the word “delete” in the subject so we can prioritise it. We will verify ownership and complete deletion within seven days.
What gets deleted immediately
- Your profile (name, email, account identifier, profile photo)
- All connections you have with other users, severing the link in both directions
- All crossings that involve your account
- All encrypted photo blobs you uploaded that have not yet been revealed to anyone
- All photo fingerprints (time + coarse location hashes) we computed from your device
- Any pending invites you created or received
What may persist for a short time
- Photos already revealed to a connected user. If you previously revealed a photo to someone, that ciphertext remains stored for the recipient until they delete the connection or their account. It is encrypted to the recipient’s key, so we cannot read it.
- Encrypted backups rotate out within thirty days. After that, no copy of your data exists in our systems.
- Server access logs are retained for up to ninety days for security and abuse investigation, then purged.
What is retained for legal reasons
- Payment and subscription records. If you purchased Crossings Plus, the transaction record is retained for up to seven years to comply with tax and accounting requirements. This record contains the date, amount, and currency of each transaction; it does not contain your card details (handled by Apple or Google) and is not linked back to a recoverable user profile after deletion.
Cancelling your subscription
Deleting your Crossings account does not automatically cancel an active Crossings Plus subscription, because subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google directly. To cancel:
- iPhone: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Crossings → Cancel.
- Android: Play Store → menu → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Crossings → Cancel.
Cancel before deleting your account if you want billing to stop.
