Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the Crossings app and the crossings.so website. By using Crossings you agree to them. Effective April 24, 2026.

1. Who we are

“Crossings” (“we”, “us”) provides the Crossings mobile app and website. Reach us at support@crossings.so.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Crossings (16 in the European Union and the United Kingdom). If you’re under the age of majority in your country, you may use Crossings only with the supervision of a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms on your behalf.

3. Your account

You sign in with Apple or Google. You’re responsible for keeping that sign-in secure. Don’t share your account, and tell us at support@crossings.so if you suspect someone else has access. You can delete your account from inside the app under Profile → Delete account; deletion is permanent and removes the data described in our Privacy Policy.

4. How Crossings works

Crossings reads the time and approximate location of photos on your device, hashes them into anonymous fingerprints, and uploads only the fingerprints. When two users’ fingerprints line up, we record a crossing. You can choose to reveal a specific photo to someone you’re connected to; the photo is end-to-end encrypted before it leaves your device. We can’t see those photos.

5. Your content

The photos you share with people you’re connected to remain yours. By sharing a photo through Crossings, you grant us a limited licence to store and transmit the encrypted bytes to the recipient you chose — nothing more. We don’t use your content to train machine-learning models, advertise to you, or display in any context outside the conversation between you and your connection.

You promise that you have the right to share what you share, and that doing so doesn’t violate anyone else’s privacy or rights.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Upload sexual content involving minors. We auto-screen profile photos and will report and ban any account that attempts this.
  • Use Crossings to harass, threaten, stalk, dox, or impersonate anyone.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app.
  • Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our infrastructure without prior written consent.
  • Use bots, scrapers, or any automated means to interact with the service.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the service.
  • Use Crossings in any way that violates applicable law.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without notice depending on the severity.

7. Crossings Plus

Crossings Plus is an optional subscription that unlocks additional features (currently: viewing all crossings per connection rather than the latest five). Subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google through your device’s respective store. Their billing terms apply: subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before renewal. Manage or cancel through your App Store or Play Store account settings — we don’t process cancellations directly.

We may change pricing or features. If we make a material change to a feature you’ve already paid for, we’ll let you know in-app or by email before the change takes effect.

Refunds are handled by Apple and Google per their respective policies.

8. Service availability

We aim for Crossings to work all the time but can’t promise it. We may take the service down for maintenance, updates, or for any reason without notice. We don’t guarantee that data, beyond what you have on your own device, will be permanently retrievable; back up anything you care about keeping.

9. Intellectual property

The Crossings name, logo, app, and website are ours. You may not use any of them without our written permission, except that you can mention “Crossings” in good-faith editorial or review contexts. We grant you a personal, limited, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for as long as you comply with these terms.

10. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any defect will be corrected.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to these terms or your use of Crossings is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and (b) US$50. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill.

Some jurisdictions don’t allow these limitations; if you live in one, the limitation applies to the maximum extent allowed there.

12. Indemnification

You’ll indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim or demand — including reasonable legal fees — brought by a third party arising from content you upload or share, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any third party’s rights.

13. Termination

You can stop using Crossings at any time and delete your account from inside the app. We can suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law — do.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which we’re incorporated, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, except that you may bring small-claims actions in your local jurisdiction if applicable. Nothing in these terms removes any consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence.

15. Changes

We may update these terms. When we make material changes, we’ll update the date above and notify you in-app or by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Crossings after the change means you accept the new terms.
